Influenced by the sincere surreality of Guided by Voices and the wry caricatures of The Kinks, Ginther’s songwriting on The Winking Badge ranges from wordy comic narratives to scathingly self-deprecative manifestos. Singer, guitarist, and folk music interpreter Jake Xerxes Fussell has distinguished himself as one of his generation’s preeminent interpreters of traditional (and not so traditional) “folk” songs, a practice which he approaches with a refreshingly unfussy lack of nostalgia. In all his work, Fussell humanizes his material with his own curatorial and interpretive gifts, unmooring stories and melodies from their specific eras and origins and setting them adrift in our own waterways. ~ Joining Jake for this tour is special guest Sam Moss, a songwriter and instrumentalist based in Staunton, Virginia. Shapes (2020) is the latest LP in his wide ranging discography, one which has been acclaimed by publications like The Boston Globe, NPR, The Wire, and Paste. He has played hundreds of shows around the country and shared bills with Joan Shelley, Diane Cluck, Doug Paisley, and others. Moss plays violin on a recent duo album with guitarist Rob Noyes (Rob Noyes & Sam Moss) and can sometimes be seen accompanying singer-songwriters like Kris Delmhorst and Jackson Emmer. He is also a woodworker.

Prepare yourself for an evening of sheer volume and power from one of Maine's hardest rocking bands Murcielago. With full Marshall stacks, bombastic drums and unique songwriting, Murcielago's music captures a lot of influence from their 60s and 70s predecessors such as Black Sabbath and Blue Oyster Cult. Joining them is Gozu, a badass American rock band with heavy riffs in tow and who "bang out tunes loud enough to piss off the neighbors". Rounding out the bill are Maine's newest hard rock band One Hundred Thorns- recent high school graduates with the power and voice to rival a young Alice in Chains. ~ FROM NEW ORLEANS ~ What if Americana actually encompassed ALL of the Americas? You'd have the Tejano and Conjunto sounds of the Texas/Mexico border region, as best exemplified by the accordion and bajo sexto, the American South's Blues, Jazz and New Orleans R&B, and the lilting grace and fiery passion of the music of the Caribbean, Mexico and Colombia. You'd also have New Orleans' premier distillers of this musical mélange, The Iguanas. Taking their cues from all of the above influences and then some, the band's music redefines the notion of Americana, crossing cultures, styles, eras... and even languages. It's as if Rue Bourbon, Muscle Shoals and Plaza México were all within earshot of each other and The Iguanas were the musical conduit between them. —— Based out of New Orleans for the past couple of decades save for a short, Katrina-imposed exile in Austin the members of the Iguanas have (collectively or individually) played or recorded with everyone from Charlie Rich, Alex Chilton, and Willy DeVille to Emmylou Harris, Allen Toussaint, and Pretty Lights. Their two-decade ride has taken them all over the map musi- cally and geographically, yet the inescapable patina of their hometown infuses every note they play. Through eight studio albums, countless tours and Jazz Fest appearances, and a flood in 2005 that did its best to take their adopted city with it, it's a testament to the band's endurance that the same four guys that started playing in the early 1990s are still together. Joe Cabral is philo- sophical about the band's persistence in the face of challenges that would have felled — indeed have felled lesser bands. "First of all, this is all we know how to do; we're musicians. But more than that," he continues, "we respect the power of the band as an entity, and each individual in the band steps up to play his part. When it's good, that's really what it's all about." — Rod Hodges agrees. "I don't want to get all heady and mystical about this, but it's not really an outward reward we're looking for. We all enjoy playing music, we all get along, and finding a group of people who can say that after all this time is a rare thing."

The all-ages festival is also proud to announce the line-up for this year's event, now in its second year. Headlining the festival, and reuniting for their first announced show in years, are Maine's beloved Rustic Overtones, who make their ARME Boot Camp debut this year alongside some of New England's best independent acts including Vapors of Morphine (ft.
